Netflix actually went back and removed the segment from the original Bill Nye show where he says that your chromosomes determine your gender.

Gender is a linguistic feature in many non-English languages that associates sex with nouns. It was not until very recently (about 40-50 years) that someone completely made up gender to mean something with regard to people's sexual identities.
